The Reutilize System was created with the goal of promoting a social and environmental impact. By managing up to 95% of solid urban waste, and then directing it to the ideal locations, almost all trash can be reused and converted into profit, thus solving the wastage problem in cities, helping co-ops, as well as raising the community’s awareness to the importance of separating and reducing waste.
Thus turning into a Waste Treatment Unit based on a Circular Economy, aiming to match the entire recycling and reuse process of plastic, glass, paper, aluminum, organic, hospital, electronic or household waste.
Recycling is the process of converting waste into new products. With the reuse of materials into the consumption chain, the amount of waste discarded in the environment is reduced significantly. Recycling also reduces the consumption of raw materials, reduces waste disposal, as well as air, water and soil pollution. Finally, reusing the materials in solid waste helps to minimize the environmental impacts caused by landfills and dumps. Instead of slurry and toxic gases, this process creates a new product made out of reused materials
Recycling also benefits the community, generating jobs and income for the collectors and co-op members. These workers carry out regular jobs, and in their hands, discarded waste finds a multitude of new use possibilities.
In Brazil, the majority of the collected Solid Urban Waste is disposed of in sanitary landfills. With 46 million tons sent to these places in 2020, approximately 60% of the collected waste that year was appropriately disposed of. On the other hand, inadequate locations for waste disposal still received approximately 40% of all collected trash.
In Brazil, only 3% to 4% of those 46 million tons of collected waste is recycled.
Managed by a co-op, this is the stage of the process in which the collected materials are separated according to their physical and chemical characteristics. These materials can also be cleaned or refined depending on what they will be converted into. After this phase, each piece of waste will be sent to its designated area for recycling or sale.
Part of the sorted materials will be destined to the Block Plant for the manufacture of plastic blocks used in construction. In partnership with Leve Blocos, an innovative and technological building system, the Reutilize System has the goal of manufacturing blocks made out of raw materials coming from selective sorting. These blocks can then be precisely and efficiently used in construction, saving up to 85% of the necessary water, and 65% of the needed electricity, when compared to traditional building methods.
These blocks even reduce the necessary energy to conserve the internal temperature of a building by up to 20%.
Brazil produces an annual 37 million tons of organic waste, which has the potential to be converted into manure, natural gas, and even energy. Unfortunately, only 1% of this waste is reused. When this untreated organic waste gets dumped in landfills, it generates methane, a very damaging gas to the atmosphere. One of the most traditional ways to recover the materials from this organic waste is by composting. It is a form of recycling, in which bacteria and fungi transform organic waste into manure.
Part of the collected organic waste will be destined to composting, the biological process in which microorganisms and invertebrates transform organic matter into compost.
In addition to the Administrative Center of the Reuse System, we’ll have an Educational Center, where there will be courses and lectures on varied topics to employees and community, creating qualification, information and inclusion.
The construction sector is responsible for a massive portion of construction and demolition waste. This type of residue generates a large impact on the environment and society when not disposed of properly. Considering that the incorrect disposal of construction residue damages the environmental quality, the construction sector is of great importance to attain sustainability. In the Waste Processing unit for construction, residue is classified by typology, segregation, packaging, treatment and final destination.

The use of natural and recyclable materials in the manufacture of toys, decoration, clothing, utensils and furniture is the essence of craftsmanship – the art of transforming and creating unique products with your own hands. In addition to using the aesthetic and practical uses of objects that would be thrown away, sustainable craftsmanship can be a great source of income and personal fulfillment. We designed a specific space for the production and sale of recycled craftsmanship, creating an opportunity for collaborators of the project to learn and differentiate themselves, generating more resources for their families.

A vegetable garden made to serve the community for free. This space provides the needy population with quality meals, growing products that are free from toxins, while also using the manure produced in the composting process. It also provides an opportunity to generate income, giving the community a chance to commercialize the plants they produce.
Part of the organic waste will go to the Power Generation Unit. This type of residue is called Biomass, which has the capacity to generate Biofuel.
Biogas, a powerful fuel source, comes from the decomposition of organic matter without oxygen. This gas contains many different types of gases, such as methane, which can generate power. Because of this, Biogas can be used in natural gas networks as vehicle fuel, as well as in the form of compressed gas, among other alternatives.
